Juneteenth Celebration
The Kennard Alumni Association invites you to Queen Anne’s County’s annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 11am-3pm. The event will take place at the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center and Museum, 410 Little Kidwell
Avenue, Centreville, MD.
This year’s event will feature the opening exhibition of “The Kent Narrows Shanty Project” and new exhibits in the Kennard African American History Museum. The new museum exhibits will offer stories of African American military bravery, entrepreneurship, sporting excellence, and community spirit. This free community event will showcase performances by African American artists, local speakers, and exhibits and craft displays by diverse community organizations. Vendors, including food trucks, will offer merchandise and food for sale. There will be prize giveaways and recognition awards.
This Juneteenth celebration is an opportunity to educate and dialogue with all citizens and reflect on our shared history in Queen Anne’s County. Kennard will offer a genealogy session on “How to discover your roots”. The Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center is creating a new African American History Resource Library and asking that this Juneteenth Celebration also be a “Giving Day”. Please bring donations of books, periodicals, and videos about or by African Americans. Please look for our new “Local African American Heroes” video series to be available online soon.
We are pleased to announce that this year’s musical offerings will feature the soulful stylings of “Sombarkin.’”
